George Hopkins

Registered Osteopath

Bio & Qualifications

Having graduated with a Masters of Osteopathy from Swansea University, I am proudly qualified to practice Osteopathy. Following 3 years of experience working for the NHS in South Wales and a private university clinic, I am pleased to have returned to my hometown of Crawley, skilled in clinical reasoning, and osteopathic treatment.

Throughout university, I trained alongside some of Britain’s most talented swimmers in both the Swansea University High-Performance team and the Welsh National High-Performance Centre. I have had an accomplished swimming career, medalling eight times at the British University Championships between 2019 and 2022. My best result came in December 2021 when I became the Welsh Champion for the 50m Breaststroke. Beyond good old ‘Blood, Sweat and Tears, I believe my sporting success was enabled by World Class injury prevention and treatment. I have mirrored this approach in specific active rehab exercises within my own osteopathic practice.

Describe yourself

Since I can remember, I have always asked ‘why?’ in pursuit of the best explanation for everything. This inquisitiveness, combined with my disciplined and competitive personality, filters into my clinical practice. I do whatever it takes to understand my patients, and to integrate my knowledge with their goals, needs, and preferences. Osteopathy is the perfect career for me as a big science nerd; I can challenge myself by applying logical evidence-based reasoning to try to achieve the best solution for every individual I treat.

Areas of special interest

I have a fascination for neurobiology, specifically the science behind pain. I use this in my goal to provide my patients with rational information and explanations behind their pain experience, before employing actionable steps to improve their pain state.

Naturally, following my swimming career, I have an interest in the prevention and treatment of sports injuries and have a specialism in sporting biomechanics (both in and out of the water!).

Goals for your patients

My goal is to provide the best-tailored treatment that allows healing to be as efficient as possible. I achieve this using my holistic biopsychosocial patient stance; you, as my patient, are a human being, not a “medical subject”. As my patient, I will strive for your complete healing and maximum tissue recovery. You will benefit from mobilisation, manipulation, and a system of graded exposure to loading; I prioritise effectiveness in every session - attempting to do the right thing every time.
